June 15, 1926: New York-based Drake Bakeries introduces the Devil Dog, a cream-filled, chocolate devil's food cake. It’s unclear how the treat got its name, but “Devil Dog” had recently been popularized as a nickname for the Marines for their tenacity in WWI.
