New CORE research highlights key factors that impede or enable abortion access.🚧
💬 Pregnant Wisconsinites faced multiple “brakes" that prevented them from accessing abortion care and “accelerators” that helped them. Experts and advocates can improve access and autonomy by addressing these issues. ⬇️
🔍 Among over 1,900 abortion patients, 90% reported at least one barrier to abortion care. But people with sexual minority identities faced many more hurdles.
💲 Sexual minorities were also more likely than heterosexual patients (40% vs. 28%) to delay essentials like rent or food to afford abortion.
⬇️
Next up in our CORE Lab member spotlight ✨️ is Frania Mendoza Lua, a Health Disparities Research Scholars postdoctoral trainee! Swipe through to learn more about Frania and her research. 🔍🌟

🧭 Patient navigation services helped people access their desired abortion. When these resources were absent, obstacles increased.

During #Pride, we're highlighting research on reproductive equity for LGBTQ+ people.
📝 A recent study shows that non-straight-identified people face greater obstacles 🚧 to abortion care than heterosexual patients and are more likely to delay expenses to pay for it.

#TeachingTuesday ⬇️
💰️ Lack of insurance coverage and travel costs kept people from having an abortion, whereas financial assistance made care more accessible.
⚖️ Abortion clinic closures and restrictive state laws, such as mandatory in-person, two-visit requirements, acted as brakes for many.
⬇️
The findings highlight the need for targeted support — such as financial aid, transportation, and emotional care — to reduce inequities in abortion access. 📈

New research by Mike Wagner (@prowag.bsky.social) and @cccr.bsky.social shows strong public support for people obtaining abortion pills by mail. He shares those findings and CORE evidence on harms of restricting mifepristone access in @isthmusmadison.bsky.social. ⤵️

Teens face magnified barriers to health care and reproductive autonomy, including a lack of confidential care and information, transportation challenges, financial barriers, and mounting legal threats.
Evidence says we should #TrustTeens to make decisions about their bodies. @youthrepro.bsky.social

As a major case winds its way back through the courts, we at @cccr.bsky.social are here with new data showing that the public is far more supportive of people purchasing mifepristone through the mail than it is against the idea. isthmus.com/opinion/opin...
While the nation's courts continue to litigate the idea of abortion access through the mail, a UW-Madison research center finds that most Americans are fine with it.
