We eradicated this insect parasite from the US in 1966. But in 2025, the human parasites who took over the government killed research and surveillance programs, allowing the New World screwworm to return.
That guy tweeted that he'd "spent the weekend feeding USAID into the wood chipper" when he could have gone to parties instead Studies suggest this caused around 750,000 deaths worldwide; about 500,000 were in kids When people picture Musk, they should be picturing half a million tiny coffins
Today is the 1 year anniversary of the Bethesda Declaration (I'm proud to have signed) On June 9 2025, a group of over 300 current &former NIH workers sent a letter to Dr. Bhattacharya expressing deep concerns about the ways he was harming the NIH Current/former staff now report ongoing harms 👇
Read the entire thread, but this post hangs the screwworm albatross firmly around tRump's neck. DOGE, Musk, and Russell Vought practically invited these insects to a smorgasbord of the American food supply. Congratulations MAGAts!!
"A new kind of institutional vandalism appeared last month in the form of a 412-page Trump administration regulatory proposal and a comment period. If the proposal passes, it will damage one of the most rigorous, productive and valuable scientific enterprises in the world."
Official measles cases just topped 2,000 in the US -- and the real rate is probably three times that. We're only halfway through the year, and it's probably going to be a "busy summer," @andrewpaviamd.bsky.social told me: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Worth a read. Many have taken note of the growing solidarity in the science community in opposition to the OMB proposed rule. But this must be just the start. For an example, we can look to @sekahn.bsky.social, Justin Ryder & co who spoke up at ADA and were removed for it. 🧵

The brave @sekahn.bsky.social removed from the ADA for distributed a publisehd op-ed critical of the admin is here on Bluesky. Give him a follow.
If you share the concerns of NIH staff worried about the future of NIH, based on the harms we've seen through bad policies at NIH to both the conduct science and the public as its beneficiaries, please add your name (or anonymous endorsement): actionnetwork.org/forms/suppor...

Opinion | Trump’s Assaults on Scientific Research Just Got Worse
The strong collective response of the science community to the proposed OMB rule has demonstrated the broad unity that’s possible when we all work together. We'd do well to apply this same level of activation to the larger assaults on science and democracy. My new post: blog.ucs.org/gretchen-gol...
It’s a pretty weird week when a guy who wants to be a trillionaire is simultaneously getting headlines for the economy-shattering IPO expected Friday and the racist pogroms he is accused of stoking — but these stories are viewed as separate and in no way connected or prescient of the future.
