These hours are illegal here on safety grounds. But American unionized workers love giving themselves unsafe hours for the overtime and reject the rotation system we use to give train crews comfortable hours. They prefer a hierarchy ranking by seniority to haze junior workers.
A very interesting column that defends US public schools. Reads to me as "schools can't be the solution" for the urban disadvantaged like in Philly.
IMO, we need to have a dynamic economy. We need to stop disincentivizing businesses of all kinds.
