That broke a lot of Americans. About ⅓.

It's really not odd. Racism was a big part of the right-wing hate speech they'd been listening to since Rush Limbaugh in the 90s. They hated "liberal elite" Clinton(s). Loved "regular guy" Bush.
They'd have hated Obama if he looked like JFK, but most were racist anyway, so yeah. Broke em.
