out over the woodland floor

Each time
the sands shift,
another measure of me
joins the deadfall
on my forest floor
I lose myself
piece by piece
to a flammable mess
of former selves
how stupendous
if I set it alight
to see them
rise again
like a phoenix
from ashes—
not gone,
just tranfigured
for the next phase
of my life.
It is not my
usual style
to implore,
beseech
or entreat
but for you
my dear,
I'd beg
on my knees
for the
barest touch,
a kiss,
a hug—
though,
in truth,
I'd never
have to—
since you
anticipate
my every need.

to wish for Eden?
Was it folly
to indulge in
so many
languorous hours
with you?
Yes, perhaps,
an egregious crime
to spend time
so lavishly
but that wonderful
melody we made—
I still play it
when life aggravates
& in my mind,
sit with you a while,
in the garden
of Eden.
