This is a great interview (if I can say so), but I also want to say that MORE PEOPLE SHOULD BE READING THIS BOOK. It was so good, and I just don't think it has gotten enough attention.
Is there a book you've always wanted to write, but you haven't jumped in? Then this week's episode is for you. I talked with @profbrooks.bsky.social about her brilliant new book, THE MOYS OF NEW YORK AND SHANGHAI (@ucpress.bsky.social), and how she brought its characters to life. 🗃️ #skystorians
It’s not every day that I find myself so invested in the characters of a history book that I stay up way past my bed time to find out what happens next, but that’s exactly what happened when I read th...draftingthepast.com

Episode 103: Charlotte Brooks Is Always Thinking About Research
It's the panel in the last time slot of the American Political History Conference, but 20th c historians should still come. Gautham's book centers on the early republic and 19th c but many (disturbing) parallels to the present that I will explain in my comments. 1/

One of my fave things I've heard from a guest on @draftingthepast.bsky.social comes from ep 14. Dan Bouk told me what when friends read drafts, he has them mark when they get bored. (draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...). He said this advice came from his friend, novelist Robin Sloan. 1/

It was an honor to be a guest on @draftingthepast.bsky.social to discuss my…erm…let’s call it haphazard process to writing this book! A real thrill to be included on a podcast that I treasure and listen to religiously. Thank you @katecarp.bsky.social!
wanted to take a moment to shout-out to some amazing people I mentioned in this podcast (and thanks again @draftingthepast.bsky.social!) @theotherrbg.bsky.social and my agent Dani Segelbaum, for vision! @matthewsomoroff.bsky.social for shepherding the manuscript through production ...
