Have to include the celebratory champagne popping video from @jsrocchio.bsky.social's defense in November! Very proud of our recent graduates and we cannot wait to see how their careers progress! Keep an eye out for more of their exciting research! 🎓
Excited to share our new preprint on self-S-sulfonation in persulfide dioxygenase CstB from S. aureus, unveiling how it detoxifies thiol persulfides via a dynamic loop shuttle to produce thiosulfate, no sulfite released! Crystal structures, MS, & mechanistic insights included.

Led by our staff scientist Julius (w/ shoutouts to former grad Brenna; IU mass spec facility Jon Trinidad & postdoc Jyoti; new IU chemistry faculty Casey Van Stappen & postdoc Andrew; and IU crystallography manager Giovanni Gonzalez-Gutierrez) + stellar collaborators in Portugal at ITQB NOVA. #IU
Huge congratulations to the most recent PhD in our lab, @jsrocchio.bsky.social, on his first-author paper in ACS Infectious Diseases! Joey built this beautiful toolkit for probing peptidoglycan biosynthesis and antibiotic action in A. baumannii cells. 🦠 #IUResearch tinyurl.com/46d8x9eb
Shoutout to our crystallographer Giovanni Gonzalez-Gutierrez (IU Biochemistry), NMR lead
@betainverse.bsky.social (former lab member, now METACyt NMR director), and our first-time MD collaborator Philip Shushkov (IU Chemistry). Amazing teamwork! #IUResearch tinyurl.com/3wxchjhp
Huge congratulations to grad student @katherinelegg.bsky.social on her new Science Advances paper, “CH•••S hydrogen bonds drive molecular recognition of ergothioneine by the microbial transporter”! 🎉 A beautiful collaboration of biochemistry, structural biology, NMR, and MD. tinyurl.com/3wxchjhp
Our grad student @katherinelegg.bsky.social was a co-author on this recent publication in collaboration with the Reniere lab at UW! @gramnegativity.bsky.social was first author and has a great thread below going over the paper. Congrats Katherine, Lauren and all those involved!
Fantastic science this weekend at @iuqcb.bsky.social's Watanabe Symposium. Our grad student @jsrocchio.bsky.social even won the student poster competition! Thanks to @tripletstatesguy.bsky.social, @glycocode.bsky.social and all other speakers for great talks! #IUresearch
