at sea, loneliness
is the absence of you.
only the cries
of the kittiwake
remind me there once
was a shoreline, once
was a home,
and then what's real
subsides to
splashes and shudders,
a summons to
meet my quietus,
eyes lifted
to a dwindling horizon.
