Of course, I could be wrong about this. Barbara Stanwyck was a Ziegfeld star in 1927, and her film career was up-and-coming after Capra directed her in Ladies of Leisure (1930). I'm starting to think that she may have been the one these drinks were named for.

So why three drinks named Barbara? The most famous and notorious woman of that name during the 1920's was Barbara La Marr, who had credits as both and actress and writer. She also had quite a reputation as a drinker, and her early death in 1926 during a career resurgence cast a long shadow.
