we need to make more of the fact that not only do blue states/cities subsidize red states/counties but that these crony, rentier economies are based in extractive and repressive industries, whole communities invested in ongoing ecological devastation and sprawling carceral and paramilitary build up

Small towns that were doomed to die off “revitalized” around having local CPB/ICE operating offices and police departments now receiving multi-million dollar federal grants, etc so on. Someone has to man the internal checkpoint from Presidio, after all etc.
