Investigative climate and tech reporter @desmog.com. Words in the Guardian, DeSmog, and the Nerve, among others.

Congrats everyone: thanks to the AI boom, the US is now investing more in fossil fuel power than China, a country with four times the population.
Last night, doctors told me I very likely have late stage ovarian cancer. I am 39. In the waiting room at the hospital, as I awaited that moment, I wrote this poem. Whoever you are, wherever you read this - live your life. In all its glory. In all its pain. Live it. It is everything.
Turns out, when you delightedly tell people you're going to force something on them that will take their job, destroy their future, and ruin the environment, they ... don't like it?
God, reading about UK politics is depressing. There is a massive, coordinated media attack on Net Zero, led by the RW press (& accelerated by Musk's X). It is *wildly* out of sync with public opinion, but it is slowly working, convincing even labour MPs that the public is more right than it is.

TikTok may have pledged to tackle climate misinformation on its platform in 2023, but earlier this month the company sponsored the annual meeting of the right-wing Canada Strong and Free Network that featured multiple climate deniers as speakers. By @rtakver.bsky.social at @desmog.com:

My dearest friend, one of the strongest women I ever met, wrote one of the most beautiful poems I ever read. Please have a look and share.
By backing a right-wing Canadian conference featuring anti-climate speakers, experts warn TikTok has “abandoned” its commitments to combat climate misinformation
