Dynamics of tropical forest usually means forest area decline. For restoration it is important to study cases where forest regain areas of abandoned land. This is a process more complicated than it might seem, and it is studied in a new thesis from Uppsala Univ. by Laura Moro

Warming and nitrogen together can drive stronger biodiversity loss than either factor alone. Ke et al found combined warming and nitrogen addition reduced plant diversity in semiarid grasslands, with soil moisture playing a key role.
Pollinator resources may be declining even in high-latitude grasslands. Kapfer et al found fewer nectar- and pollen-producing plants in Norwegian grasslands over a 7–10 year period, alongside vegetation shifts linked to wetter and shadier conditions.
Early postfire recovery can shape forests for decades. Lee et al show that regeneration after fire strongly determines 20-year successional trajectories in Korean pine forests, influencing whether stands shift toward oak dominance or retain pine.
How do centuries of land use shape today’s forests? Diez et al show that historical deforestation in southern Germany still drives higher plant diversity and stronger community turnover today.
