I am not being hyperbolic when I say (tech) capitalism is alienating (making strangers) of us at a staggering scale. Alienating us from ourselves, each other, touch, feeling, thoughts…from the intimacy and care of touch, bedtime stories, prayers, poems, drawings, community, love
NEW: We brought @aoc.bsky.social to deep red Georgia to talk data centers.
We found a data center rebellion, with people willing to radically shift their politics.
One conservative voter said: "If there's a chance that anything can be done, I feel like she's gonna be the one to do it."
This is an outrageous story. A farmer donated 87 acres to a small Texas city on the condition it be used as a public park. Years later, the farmer has passed away, the city sold the land to a developer, and now it will be the site of a 135,000 square foot data center

I appreciate that the letter, signed by 29 of 51 city council members, called for ongoing "'education on the multiple risks in employing the technology’”, an approach that reinforces teaching about and against AI technologies before (if ever) teaching with them.
This piece was written in 2024 and once got nothing but good reviews and was still rejected, but finally here's our satirical research article "ProMe: Supporting the new Merit-Based Professoriate through AI-powered, Robot-Assisted Professional Development." Huge props to @fractalecho.bsky.social.
In 1999, a farmer gave away 87 acres of land to a small Texas town to use as a park. The town sold to a data center developer for $10 million.
"concerns about reproducibility should not trump concerns about confidentiality or harm to participants, particularly... [given] the potential to place inequitable burdens on qualitative researchers and to further erode people’s willingness to participate in research"
