I tend to think if it's got any good qualities it's that it creates a low-effort threshold to disregard and circumvent a bad law, which accustoms kids in an age of increasing automation and autopilot and that they can be more critical of other areas of overreach and remember they still have agency.

Banning under-16s from social media is good - partly because kids shouldn't be using social media, but mainly because it's great for our political class to start getting into the habit of aggressively regulating social media and the wider online sphere
