🧪This is history in the making.
On this day last year, @jenna-m-norton.bsky.social et al. penned the #BethesdaDeclaration criticizing the politicization of the #NIH.
Cancer research grants supporting clinical trials were terminated, halting clinical trials. Fewer grants were funded.🧪
We published an article written by a number of current and former peer review workers in their personal capacities outlining the changes to peer review at the NIH over the last 18 months. It’s a great resource, and we’re grateful to the authors who wrote it! open.substack.com/pub/27unihte...

Authored by anonymous current and former NIH workers with experience in peer review, this is an overview of all the changes to NIH's peer review over the last 18 months.
3/ Censorship and silence IS partisan. It allows continuation of the status quo (the destruction of NIH) and aids those currently in power (a particular political party).
"Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppressor."
The brave @sekahn.bsky.social removed from the ADA for distributed a publisehd op-ed critical of the admin is here on Bluesky. Give him a follow.

2/ Distributing a published editorial about how current NIH policy is harming science is not partisan. It is honest. And this honesty matters deeply to people living with diabetes who will be robbed of future treatments and cures if these policies continue.
4/ ADA's statement abdicates its responsibility to its members & beneficiaries, who will suffer from its silence.
ADA may continue to exist a little longer because it chose silence & censorship. But its mission to end diabetes through research & "bold advocacy" is dying of self-inflicted wounds.
Worth a read. Many have taken note of the growing solidarity in the science community in opposition to the OMB proposed rule. But this must be just the start.
For an example, we can look to @sekahn.bsky.social, Justin Ryder & co who spoke up at ADA and were removed for it.
🧵
We can look to the ADA leaders Jennifer Green & Mark Atkinson who resigned with integrity in protest.
We can look to voices that have grown louder more recently @holdenthorp.bsky.social @elizabethginexi.bsky.social
We can look to the "seething"😉 scientists, loud from the start: @27unihted.bsky.social @standupforscience.net @markhisted.org @princess-vimentin.bsky.social @tyk314.net @cdelawalla.bsky.social @gretchentg.bsky.social
And we can look to those who literally wrote the book: @timothysnyder.bsky.social
A disappointing statement from the Am Diabetes Assn on @sekahn.bsky.social & co. diabetes.org/newsroom/pre...
"As a 501(c)(3) organization, the ADA has safeguards in place to ensure that it complies with all IRS regulations. This includes maintaining a strictly nonpartisan environment..."

This just out in Diabetes Care. The need to highlight the destructive plans of the administration continues. Everyone needs to post comments to the OMB website. Relevant links in the article. Don’t delay!! diabetesjournals.org/care/article...
