Yes! As historians we know nothing is predetermined, which I take to mean we have to work for the world we want to live in. Of course, as a historian, I also know I might not get that outcome either. But that doesn’t mean I can abandon the effort or give up hope.
My most optimistic take on all of this is that slop AI is going to force us all into an existential crisis where we come out on the other side with a deep understanding and appreciation of subjectivity.
