I agree, but I also remember reading about how the BBC also did not announce a cancellation in 1989 either, as they were looking for new partners for what would become the McGann movie.
It's all eerily similar...
It’s the TV equivalent of Final Fantasy, it doesn’t *need* to end because each game/era is largely self-contained and its own thing
