Canada’s independent corporate watchdog has been leaderless for a year, leaving at least 24 overseas human rights and environmental abuse cases stalled.
Critics say the leadership gap at CORE undermines accountability just as Canada ramps up critical mineral investments.
It’s well known that Canadian companies violate the rights or abuse the rights of Indigenous peoples in their overseas operations. Yet we still don’t have the political will to put in place accountability mechanisms or human rights due diligence.
