Punitive justice can exist without state sanctioned violence towards the guilty.

I get the urge to try and argue from a common ground,
But police shouldn't kill guilty people, either.
Guilty people shouldn't die from abuse or neglect in jail, either.
Nobody deserves to be sexually assaulted, even in prison, even if convicted. Obviously.
We can't cede that, even rhetorically.
