We show that black-browed #albatrosses breeding in more variable environments display slower life histories (slow, late-onset reproductive senescence) and greater among-individual variation in life-history strategies
📃New paper in Ecology letters 🐦
I’m delighted to share the publication of the first paper from my #postdoc with @samanthacpatrick.bsky.social looking at life-history trade-offs and #senescence in black-browed #albatrosses from Kerguelen and Bird Island
doi.org/10.1111/ele.70384
However, earlier and faster reproductive senescence correlates with higher lifetime reproductive success (LRS) 🐣 regardless of environmental variability. This result suggests that either faster life histories yield higher fitness or successful reproduction accelerates reproductive senescence
Excited to see my illustration on the cover of a Journal of Avian Biology issue 😍🎨! Don't miss the cool review on same-sex partnership in birds written by @tashgillies.bsky.social and @katrina-siddiqi.bsky.social
Huge thanks to all my collaborators on this project, it has been amazing working with you! We are also grateful to the funding agencies and fieldworkers, without whom this work would not have been possible! @liverpooluni.bsky.social @ukri.org @bas.ac.uk @predateursmarins.bsky.social

🦆 🚨 NEW PAPER ALERT 🚨 🦆
📃 Curious about links between PFAS contamination and parental care in birds?
Chek out our new paper in Environmental Research:

Life-history theory predicts a trade-off between allocation of resources to reproduction or self-maintenance, yet how environmental variability shapes this trade-off remains poorly understood. We sho...
We have extended the deadline for our Special Issue of Euro-African Flyways. Please, submit your manuscript of this topic to Ornis Fennica by 28 February 2026. ornisfennica.journal.fi #ornithology
A new issue of Ornis Fennica is now available! The issue has articles of Eagle Owls in Finland, Goldcrests & Firecrests in Poland and bird assemblages in the West Carpathians. ornisfennica.journal.fi/issue/view/1... #ornithology #OpenAccess

🚨 PhD alert 🚨 We are looking for a highly motivated student to use 🧬 genomics 🧬 and 🛰️ bio-logging 🛰️ approaches to disentangle cultural and genetic contributions to seabird migration 🐣 Think this is you, or someone you know? Then come to our Q&A session at on 29/09 and check out the ad below!
Coming: a special issue of Ornis Fennica on Euro-African Flyways. The scope can cover any topic related to the ecology, behaviour and biogeography of birds in the concerned flyways. ornisfennica.journal.fi #ornithology
🚨 Now out: Award Issue, collecting all seven mini-reviews included in the 2025 Review Competition written by early career researchers. Highlighting emerging or less explored topics in avian biology
