strangely enough, the countries with universal health insurance and public hospital care have higher employment to population ratios than the US bc there are no income cliffs where you lose coverage so folks don't avoid work to stay covered. and the sick get covered!
Today in "first they came for..." Back in 2015 folks at a workshop got mad at me for writing that the US had an empire whose demographic core was a herrenvolk welfare state. too spicy for the mainstream polisci crowd.
