I always had problems with markers and so I always use pencils to render but I think I found the solution to my problem and it's basically layering. I just have to layer every time with them so that it doesn't look patchy.
And of course find similar/same colours that blends together for shading.

Finally got time to post this! It is technically Apple related (TWO APPLES (ewe)b ) but I did an experiment on Markers only to see if I can work with them well and I must say...I am happy how it turned out! (>w<)/💖
