Gutted by this news, and that she was so young--even if I could do the math on her autobiographical story, Persepolis seems like the work of decades' more confidence and insight. And just a beautiful creation.

Her graphic novel series, published in English in 2003, followed an Iranian girl through the Islamic revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. The work helped millions relate to Iranians.
