a topical #TopTipThursTAY for this rainy day: what to do with a wet book!
While we hope everyone is careful with Bodleian library books, sometimes unexpected circumstances arise. If a book gets wet, there are a few simple steps you can take to reduce the damage!
While a book will not be the same after getting wet, taking these steps will reduce the likelihood of mould growth and additional damage.
And if you return books which have gotten wet, please hand them directly to staff rather than putting them through the book drop! The books will thank you 📖
🚧 Closure Update 🚧 Unfortunately, the Periodicals & Reference room remains closed due to the aforementioned leak. The Slavonic Reading Room is also inaccessible until further notice. Ask a member of staff if you need materials from either room. We can't fetch them but we will do our best to help!

Don't miss it!
1. Remove the book from the source of the moisture. Whether it's a leaky water bottle or roof, get the book somewhere dry!
2. Dry the book cover using a cloth or paper towel.
3. Fan the pages as shown, and let it dry. This stops pages from sticking together, and allows them to dry quicker.
