Why ants, you ask? Worker ants, the ones we see most often, are exclusively pedestrian; male ants, seen outside the nest, are exclusive fliers; alate females do a bit of both. In some of the largest bull ants, males tend to be day-active, workers are nocturnal, & the alate females do a bit of both!
