1️⃣ deposition of a monolayer of microparticles on a flat surface; 2️⃣ the upper side is covered with a metallic layer through #magnetronsputtering 3️⃣ half-coated spheres catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide on the metallic side, propelling in the other direction.
🔸CELLOIDS UPDATE #4🔸 What are active particles❓ Active particles, also known as self-propelled particles, can use energy from their surroundings and convert it into directed motion. How do we make them?👇 @erc.europa.eu 🇪🇺GA:948590
The core must be: 🔘liquid ➡️ to allow the deformation of the structure and the movement of self-propelled microparticles 🔘active ➡️ to generate spontaneous shape changes by consuming chemical energy (3/3)🔚
SOFTINVADERS is the new project carried on at our lab✨ 🇪🇺 Funded by @erc.europa.eu (GA 101213190), it officially started in October 2025 and will end in March 2027. It aims at further develop celloid micrororobots so that they can penetrate solid tumors. Stay tuned for more!
The membrane must be: 🔘 permeable ➡️ to allow the communication between the core and the external environment 🔘deformable ➡️ to enable movement through narrow gaps 🔘responsive ➡️ to sense local stimuli and respond with a localized deformation (2/3)👇
🔸CELLOIDS UPDATE #3🔸 How do we make the microrobots membrane❓ Check out our JoVE article where we walk through the protocol we use! 🔗 www.jove.com/t/68340/usin... @erc.europa.eu 🇪🇺GA:948590 #microrobots #microrobotics #biorobotics #research #science #lipidvesicles #GUV #droplettransfer
🔸CELLOIDS UPDATE #2🔸 Our #celloid microrobots consists of a membrane and a core. @erc.europa.eu 🇪🇺GA:948590 #microrobotics #research #biorobotics (1/3)👇
We had the pleasure of hosting Dr. @continiclau.bsky.social last week for a fascinating seminar on artificial cells with a focus on how soft matter can lead to cell-like behaviour. Thank you for visiting! See you soon✨ @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social #artificialcells #softmatter #science
We’re heading to #FocusLive in Milan at Leonardo da Vinci museum of science and technology 🔭 Come find us at our stand ❤️🔬🤖 #scicomm #focuslive2025 #science #research #microrobots
Excited to be in beautifully snowing Denver for #APSSummit26. Looking forward to a week of learning and meeting scientists from around the globe! @apsphysics.bsky.social @apsdsoft.bsky.social @microrobotlab.bsky.social
