It is the way politics works. But politics shouldn't work like this anymore. Allowing people to remain ignorant and hateful to secure their vote does everyone a disservice.
This man, who is eligible for a green card through his adult U.S. citizen son, should not have been locked up for 4 months.
No previous administration would have jailed a man in a situation like this; undocumented, yes, but a hardworking taxpayer with no criminal record.
It's very similar to "late term abortions" with the exception that the subset trans guys who got top surgery as teenagers are pretty thankful for it today. I also stopped arguing with people who think my autonomy over my own body depends on an Excel spreadsheet they made up in their heads

There is a problem with the stories we tell & the way we perceive how change happens. The Union of Pinnacle Tenants, the largest tenant-led union in NYC—are the reason Mamdani took action. Organized people power is pivotal. Top down stories of elected heroes (even ones we like) are not sufficient.
ICE just reported the 19th death in immigration detention. Staff at Winn Correctional Center in Louisiana found 43-year-old Mamuka Artmeladze unresponsive the night of June 4. He died less than an hour later.
