We want a Scottish Paths Fund; an idea which recently featured in both the SNP and Scottish Greens manifestos.
Congratulations to all involved with the £300k restoration of An Teallach's scenic mountain path.
As Mountaineering Scotland say, this fantastic project illustrates the urgent need for a Scottish Paths Fund to support the nation's trails, especially as walking tourism is worth £1.6billion annually!
Trails are the main way that people access Scotland's nature, so it's great to have a new Paths Champion in Holyrood.
Labour's Jenny Young MSP is Scottish Environment LINK's new #NatureChampion for Paths.
We can't wait to work with Jenny to protect & expand our trails, for all to enjoy. 👍🏼
Just to take the WHW as an example, it's worth £30mil a year to the economy, introduces many first time visitors to Scotland who return but is left to deteriorate dreadfully in parts. Lauded internationally what they must think of us on encountering those first miles up to Gartness.
