Really trying to see if there’s value to be had from Whoop but frustrated by consistently poor measurements. On morning jog, it records an erroneously elevated heart rate (1st pix), likely bc it’s recording gait not pulse. Apple watch (second pic) seems much more accurate.
2/This graf beautifully articulates the "uneasy" - perfect word choice - place in medicine where guidelines sit...
3/The risks of AI-generated guidelines is that b/c results will look so polished, there's real risk that, as Zak Kohane writes, we'll mistake "linguistic competence for clinical legitimacy"...
6/6 Similar issues related to guidelines fatigue arose during the COVID, as I discussed at the time for @thebulwark.com, here: thebulwark.com/p/beware-of-....
5/ An important cautionary tale that might have also been referenced - this insightful essay from the late Bill Gardner on the moral cost of excessive guidelines: theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/th... - which also cites important work in area from @davidblumenthal.bsky.social .
This seems promising - @openevidence.bsky.social deployed at MGB-West - er, um, I mean @cedarssinaihsu.bsky.social, in HIPAA-compliant fashion evidently that integrates OE evidence + pt medical records. Seems highly enabling, congrats to Peter & all my other former colleagues leading w such vision.
1/This is an excellent, characteristically nuanced and thoughtful perspective from Zak Kohane on the application of AI to medical guidelines - it's short enough that you should just read it, but - key highlights follow.... ai.nejm.org/doi/full/10....
4/Zak Kohane offers constructive suggestion - suggesting where AI could most effectively be focused - on "mustn't miss" errors of omission, with plenty of space left for judgement, i.e. "preserving the discretionary space in which good medicine occurs."
I've long appreciated @yale.edu professor @lauriesantos.bsky.social Happiness Lab pcast, & as dad of three gen Z daughters, I especially welcomed her most recent ep offering "hot take" on the kids today who it turns out are likely not worse off than ever before... podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...
We’re all in this together. I’m very proud that the Pittsburgh Jewish Federation helped our Muslim neighbors. “The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh…helped the Attawheed Islamic Center in Carnegie, PA apply for a grant through the state security grant program. religionnews.com/2026/06/11/a...
