Overdrive (the company that owns Libby) and the publishers are making good money, so to put out a report implying that libraries are costing the authors money when it is almost certainly a question of how well they're being paid by their publishers that is the real issue...
Current status: in the process of convincing myself that I am not too worn out to use the ticket I bought a month ago for a show tonight. Will I succeed?
The Author's Guild study is very basic divide and conquer nonsense. There were a lot of ways this report could have been written with the data at hand, but this narrative seems written in a way that suits major publishers, who like to say they love libraries while their actions show they hate them.
Also of note: have you ever wondered how much it costs a library to provide ebooks via Libby? Probably less, right? Since there's no physical book to print, store, and ship? Nope! It costs more a lot of the time (and only one person can use each ebook at a time)! www.bruceb.com/2025/09/libb...
Here's an interesting piece on that.

If you’re agreeing to an embargo like this, you gotta reassess what your outlet is even doing, journalistically.
