I think most of all I would say that she always trusted and never, ever underestimated her audience. she knew exactly where the line was and when to push it. not a lot of children's authors that I grew up with had that kind of depth and integrity and intensity. I want to be that kind of author

Jane yolen was honestly one of the very rare authors who could write for little kids, middle schoolers, teenagers, young adults, AND older adults and absolutely nail it every time. she knew her audience(s) but she never let it color her voice or what she was trying to say
