I think the Democratic party hasn't been equipped to handle the fact that the general population both /is/ more politically engaged nowadays, /and/ remembers the fallout of 2008.
The biggest issue I have with the centrist dem stance of insisting they're being realistic about winning elections is the fact that they always struggle and often fail to win unless they at least campaign on a relatively progressive platform. Time and again, for my whole lifetime.
