Augustus loved the spectacle of watching boxing 🥊 matches & regular Romans engaged in street fighting (Suet. Aug. 45.2). He didn’t set up a gauche UFC arena but it reminds us: men who leave warfare to others often enjoy watching others fight for their benefit—on a battlefield or in an amphitheater.
