I love that moment in Star Trek II when Sulu decides to cue up the VHS tape of Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Hoping Walter Koenig is doing okay and has a full recovery
Lirpa upgrade
Spirit Week on board the Enterprise of course included Pajama Day
if you do the right thing it’s okay to feel pleased with yourself
presented without comment…
I respect the remastered effects for classic Star Trek: they show restraint and and technically it was done to upgrade them for HD. But they don't feel "of a piece" with the rest of the show to me, and I like to honor the creative work of the people behind the originals...

As a dreamy, angsty adolescent I used to look at this Hildebrandt illustration and get the same feelings I got from Whitlock’s Rigel 7 matte painting: a sense of wonder and a desire to escape. My teen years are long past, but today as a 50-year-old with chronic pain I looked at them again...
Star Trek, as timeless as it is, was very much a product of the 60's, and all the tangible problem-solving behind the original effects (even when they fall short) just fits with the lighting, the music, and the style of the performances. And sometimes the remastered effects are simply not as good!
