Old probate records often contain much more than a simple distribution of property. Sometimes they preserve family tensions, medical testimony, and details about relationships that would otherwise be lost to history. That was certainly the case when I recently revisited a transcription in my files concerning the probate of Aaron Hutchinson of Caledonia, Livingston County, New York.
