The myth of the immigrant freeloader is a wizened one. It isn't the sole purview of the Alberta Premier. But it's a myth. Migrants give more than they get. And just as with citizens, where they do need services, it's cheaper to provide them early.

Canada loses as much as $25 billion a year to tax avoidance and profit shifting. Instead of strengthening the CRA's capacity to recover that money, the Carney government is cutting the professionals who investigate complex tax files and enforce the rules.
