It highlights the potential of manipulating mitochondrial inheritance for crop breeding 🌾 @natplants.nature.com
I'm also grateful to the European Research Council (ERC) Horizon 2020 programme @erc.europa.eu and the Max Planck Society for their funding support of this work.
Mitochondria can indeed be inherited from the father! 🍀
In this new study, we uncovered the molecular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial inheritance in Nicotiana tabacum. @natplants.nature.com

It has been my privilege to lead and coordinate this work across three labs: my former postdoc lab at MPIMP @mpi-mp-potsdam.bsky.social; my former PhD lab at CUHK; and my current group at WUR @wurplant.bsky.social @w-u-r.bsky.social
Big thanks to all the scientists who contributed to this work!
It’s also nice to see that another Review on this topic was published very recently doi.org/10.1111/tpj.... Research in this area is gaining momentum 🌱📈🥼
We're hiring a PhD candidate! 🔬

We are very excited to share a new resource from our team: spatial subcellular proteome maps in plants! We developed an MS-based method that registers localizations of about 8000 proteins in Arabidopsis roots in a single experiment.

Our work on #hornwort #pyrenoids is finally out in @science.org! 🎉 We uncovered how hornworts pack their Rubisco into pyrenoids and successfully recreated them in Arabidopsis. A key step toward engineering more efficient photosynthesis in crops @btiscience.bsky.social www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Our group investigates the maternal inheritance of plastid and mitochondrial genomes in plants, with the goal of uncovering the mechanisms that govern this process.
Our work is out now! (www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...). We discover a selective autophagy pathway that protects plants from the mess caused by RNA viruses. Intrigued? Follow the spaghetti trail for a summary of our findings🧵-->
In many algae, photosynthesis is boosted by biophysical CO2-concentrating mechanisms, which pack the CO2-fixing enzyme Rubisco into liquid-like organelles called pyrenoids. Engineering C3 crops with a...
