This week, I’ll be proud to welcome the Obama Presidential Center to Illinois’ 2nd District and celebrate the legacy of Michelle and President Obama.
I’m in Montgomery because the fight for voting rights didn’t end here — and neither did the responsibility to defend them. Across this country, Black voices and our democracy are under attack. We will not be intimidated, erased, or silenced. We organize. We vote. We fight back.
The racism shown by my colleagues in words and actions, is disgraceful. There are no adults in the room: not in the White House and not in the Speaker’s chair. We fight back by taking back the House and electing Hakeem Jeffries Speaker.
This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Today, we remember them and hold their loved ones close in our hearts.
Today we wear orange in memory of Hadiya Pendleton and all victims of gun violence. Orange symbolizes visibility and safety, and serves as a call to action for safer communities. We honor those we’ve lost and stand with survivors in the fight to end gun violence. #WearOrange (photo 5.31.26)
Ten years ago, gun violence and hate stole 49 lives at Pulse nightclub and injured 58 others. What should have been a place of joy and belonging became the site of unimaginable tragedy. We remember those we lost, stand with survivors, and continue the fight to end gun violence and hate.
My prayers are with his wife, Dr. Donna Leak, their children, the entire Leak family and all who were touched by his life and service.

Chicagoland has lost a pillar of compassion in Spencer Leak Jr. For generations, the Leak family has helped families through their darkest moments with dignity and care. I will never forget Spencer’s kindness and professionalism in handling the details of my husband Nate’s funeral.
A $60 million White House spectacle gave a platform to attacks on Michelle Obama—an embarrassment that should be condemned by everyone involved. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
