Honestly though, the current location only has the history going for it. If World Cup tourists go visit the old 96 Torch, they’ll be greeted by the absolute embarrassment that is modern American land use and transportation planning:
Is Atlanta ready for a World Cup? Is Athens, GA ready to host a UGA football game? Is a frat house ready to host a beer pong tournament?
It was really nice of Atlanta leaders to provide 1 parking garage per FIFA gameday tourist.
Honestly, this a great move by GA State and its secret cabal of wealthy power brokers. Relocating the torch will free up room to add 10-15 parking spaces which are desperately needed in that section of Hank Aaron Dr.
As much as I enjoy defaming traffic engineers, we structural engineers have our own canon of villains and traitors including Robert E. Lee who designed the foundations and walls for Fort Pulaski. He promised the walls could never be breached, yet the Union Army did so in 30 hours.
ANOTHER secret cabal making decisions about the public realm in private?! What’s this one called “Better Atlanta Torch”?
Whoever made this website gets as many gold stars and A+’s as you can imagine. Yes, I’m once again talking about BeltLine Rail, but the wider point is that TAD money is tossed into a black hole and we should only expect corrupt decisions like this in return.

It's so very City of Atlanta that the view they picked for the big glamor shot is the 16-lane highway cutting a hole through the heart of the city.

An independent public-records project documenting how Atlanta's voter-approved BeltLine light rail gave way to a driverless-shuttle pilot. Every claim links to a source document.
Atlanta, we are officially 1 day away from FIFA World Cup 2026™ action in Atlanta!
The energy is here, the world is here, and Atlanta is ready to show up. Let’s make history together.
Georgia State University plans to move the Olympic torch from Summerhill to Centennial Olympic Park, sparking opposition from local leaders.

Is Atlanta ready for the World Cup? Ridiculous question: It’s the ONLY thing we’re ready for after leaders spent decades displacing Downtown communities, replacing homes & businesses with parking lots, highways, hotels, convention centers & stadiums, and ceding public finance to private corporations

As World Cup matches begin, advocates warn that Atlanta will ramp up arrests, displacement, and criminalization of homeless residents.
