Even for projects I follow on other platforms, like Itch or GOG, it feels like Steam always plays such an outsized role. Like my participation or even just consumption counts for less than it would if I'd do it on Steam instead. 😶🌫️
I'm not a fan of it, but it boils down to where most customers are. 😓

anyway I have a theory: the reason most indie devs are so obsessed with wishlists now is because we have reached a point where steam is a self-reinforcing arbiter of what people notice. Wishlists get you ranking on new and popular and in nextfests. Streamers watch those and play the top games.
