⬇️ The 2016 referendum campaign was stunningly male-dominated.
Newspapers privileged male voices over female by 85% to 15%.
TV coverage favoured men by 3:1.
In the press, 90% of business voices were male & 85% of politicians. This was markedly worse than in *1975*.

Hi Robert Kenyon, you had Ant & Debt campaigning for you today.
Did you know Ant Middleton took out a £2.7million director's loan before his company went bust owing £1,199,773 in tax to HMRC?
After being dumped as Reform UK’s London candidate, he went to hang in Dubai with Tommy Robinson.

From rights to equal pay for work of equal value, protection from pregnancy discrimination, rights for carers, rights for parental leave, protection from discrimination on the grounds of sexuality - there is a tonne of rights that are vital important to women that stemmed from EU membership.

This is less a problem with the programme than it is a problem with the yawning gap in the debates. Women's rights were (and are) jeopardised by Brexit. (I wrote about this way back when: www.referendumanalysis.uk/eu-referendu...).
Yet total silence on the subject from key players - and guess what, all the key players were men. This excellent analysis of the male tilt of referendum media coverage, 'Three Men and a Vote' was published by researchers at Loughborough University: theconversation.com/three-men-an...

There's plenty to unravel in terms of content/framing etc. (Very triumphal; very Brexity; lots of back-slapping about moral courage; no soul searching; not clear if the 'war' refers to the nation, or the Tories, or even just the Leavers). But I'm focusing on just how relentlessly male it all is.

The rights of EU national women are especially precarious thanks to (a) the way the Withdrawal Agreement was drafted, and (b) the way the Withdrawal Agreement is being implemented NOW. And yet, we have to ask AGAIN *where were, and where are the women in the debates?* pure.york.ac.uk/portal/en/pu...
