Join us for an online workshop introducing the modern generative AI paradigm from a statistical and biostatistical perspective, designed for PhD students and professional researchers. The seminar covers the foundations of key generative modeling approaches — including autoregressive models, VAEs, GANs, diffusion models, and large language models — and explores how they represent complex data-generating processes and approximate high-dimensional probability distributions. Through examples from biostatistics and biomedical data science, participants will examine applications such as synthetic data generation, missing-data imputation, and clinical and epidemiological text analysis, while also considering responsible deployment in health-related settings, including privacy, bias, and fairness. Taught via Zoom, the workshop includes take-home skill challenges, access to recordings and materials for 30 days, an instructor-monitored discussion forum, an official Instats certificate of completion, and ECTS Equivalent points for European students.
