Putin signed a law Wednesday allowing seizure of property from Russians living abroad who are accused of offenses “against Russia’s interests.”
The law removes proportionality limits, letting courts freeze assets worth millions of rubles even over minor fines, with cases heard in absentia.
On May 26, Russia’s State Duma is scheduled to review a draft law that targets exiled critics for allegedly acting “against Russia’s interests overseas.”
