This is one of those isn't science cool mind blowing things Modern tech means we can learn stuff about plague in medieval Europe we couldn't previously possibly have known, this is really fascinating stuff

First, the title. "Straining" means that we're no longer looking at plague just as a generic disease, but as specific evolutionary lineages. aDNA work is still in its early days, but already at least 1 pattern is clear. More than 1 strain existed in Europe by the mid-14th century! 2/n
