I spent my entire consultant career trying unsuccessfully to persuade residents in resp med to use LA for ABGs.
The Lightowler and Elliott trial you cited was done in our department!
On the plus side, when I needed my ABGs checking in that dept more recently I did get LA (I had asked - strongly)
