you'll need a heating pad. It goes on the back of the tank, not under it. UVB/UVA light so they can get proper vitamin D3. They enjoy a cuttlefish bone also, for calcium. Like to scrape their little claws on it. You can dust their food with calcium as well. I don't recommend calcisand.

thinkin' about hand making a little booklet about hermit crab care. I was busy at work the other day deep cleaning the avian area and someone came in interested in hermits but I was the only person in the store that knows anything about them. :\
Leave that fuckin sponge out. Throw it away. Sponges harbor bacteria and fungus. They need fresh (dechlorinated) water and salt water. Hermits are social creatures also, you need more than one. they get sad when they're alone. Plenty of shells for them to choose (unpainted)

environment for hermies: 20 gallon tank minimum. underline that minimum. Enough play sand that it's deep enough for them to bury themselves and then some. They molt under the sand. 80f and 80% humidity (easy to remember, they breathe through gills). Stuff to climb on and hide under. saucer wheel.
