The invasion followed more than 80 days of siege, during which Dr. Abu Safiya and a small team refused to evacuate as they cared for the wounded under frequent Israeli attacks.
These reports are horrific, yet ultimately unsurprising. Israeli forces have treated Palestinians in Israeli prisons inhumanely for decades, with thousands held for years without charge, and over 100 have died while incarcerated during the ongoing genocide.
Since December of 2024, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan hospital, was kidnapped by the Israeli military. Israeli forces disappeared him into Israeli prison without any charges and with a sentence that they continued extending.
