When People or TMZ report on a lawsuit filed on a Saturday, and don’t link to the complaint, they’re more or less acting as the plaintiff’s PR team, not as journalists. It’s clear they got leaked a copy (or in People’s case maybe just a summary) and decided to run what amounts to a press release.
