The Post’s request for the procurement document is being treated as an official information request, hence we haven’t seen the full extent of it.
To get to the bottom of this mystery The Post asked Labour leader Chris Hipkins, who led a delegation of MPs to Fieldays on Thursday, what was going on.
“I just don’t think they thought through the impact on councils.”
”I’ve been around long enough to go, that was a beautiful moment, but now it’s back to the work. But it was amazing.”
"Sure, the crystal ball is a little smudgy and sometimes the swells come to nothing. But I’d always rather be over-prepared, than caught completely unawares."
Wellington mayor Andrew Little made the first major move of his new position in November by bringing a vote to council to pause and review the Golden Mile project.
"These are not back-office jobs. These are people with deep expertise and genuine relationships in the sector, who work alongside artists and arts organisations every day."

Luke Malpass: This is a decidedly retail start from Labour. It does not make public transport free, but it does make it significantly cheaper. Plenty of overseas jurisdictions do similar things, although the caps are often much higher.
"As a country we want elected representatives who are at the top of their game, could make good money elsewhere, and don’t have to make long-lasting lifestyle sacrifices like selling their home in order to serve." @henrycooke.bsky.social

ANALYSIS: Cheaper public transport is aimed squarely at voters who can swap the car for a bus or train. The policy may be affordable, but its appeal is unlikely to be universal.

OPINION: No one thinks the Prime Minister works ten times harder than a care worker - or ten times less than a CEO. But we pay him like he does.
